This Is It!

The breakthrough I was told to expect nin December has finally happened...7months in!
I'm now feeling so much more confident in social situations and can actually string together coherent answers to questions, rather than just saying; si, no se, no pasa nada, no entiendo! whooo I can now relax and enjoy the final 4weeks. Unbelievable!

Carnaval

Well, I have learnt my lesson! I am never going to Carnaval in Cadiz ever again! It was cold, there was nothing to do and we got covered in piss! I hate 'We Love Spain' biggest waste of time ever!

The next time I go to Carnaval it will be in Rio!

That's right...

....I'm on blogger and Facebook as I've fobbed off the kids with a Valentine's Day Card activity!!

Probably should've censored the magazines before I gave them out though...More's 'Position of the Week' is just not suitable for 10year olds!!

Oops!

Sacrificing English

So over a delicious lunch of yellow and brown foods, Christina and I had the daily American vs British English conversation! It went as follows....

Leah: Hmm I've noticed how you say houses (hausez)

Christina: Why, how do you say it?

Leah: Houses (howsez)

Christina: But..mouse, you don't say mouses (mowsez)
**genuine look of triumph**

Leah: Err, Christina....it's mice.

Christina: Oh shit

Definitely a win for the British by default!

Que mierda de horario!

So, the kids went on strike yesterday because 15minutes were getting added to the school day. It's ridiculous, all that has changed, is that they have 5minutes extra on their break and 10minutes more at the end of the day! Talk about kicking up a fuss about nothing. But whatever, meant I got to go home early!

For future reference...

You cannot pick up a pregancy test in Spain without drawing attention to yourself!

About a month and a half overdue...

Is the blog scene dead?

Okay, so due to lack of internet, I''ve yet to blog anything substantial since moving to Spain. Seeing as I'm only a week away from returning home for Christmas, I thought it best to write a bit about my experiences so far.

Current location: Bed, should be in work but have given myself the day off due to stress, induced by getting mugged on the metro!

So I've been here for more or less 3months, feels like a lot longer but not in a bad way. Plasencia is not the most happening place on the planet but I can now appreciate how much being here is going to help with my language. At first, I was fine...the first few weeks, I had no problems whatsoever. Then all the free time started messing with my head, I found myself thinking way too much, about everything and anything. I've never wanted to be in Manchester more in my life, Mold even. I just want what I can't have. Having said that, I'm not wasting my time here. Some people who feel this way just get their heads down and muddle through, counting down the days until they get to go home for good. Well, I;m still kind of doing that but I'm having a really good time filling up my weekends with trips before I go home! It's crazy to think that when I get back here after Christmas, I'll almost be halfway through my post! (POSTING THIS ON THE OFFICIAL HALFWAY POINT!) But I will need something to occupy my weekends, so a lot more trips need to be planned. I have already been to Caceres, Navalmoral, Hervas, Salamanca, Madrid and Sevilla...oh and Paris, but does that could seeing as it's in France?! Failing more trips, a headstart on my dissertation wouldn't go amiss!

The first term has flown by and hope the others do the same, although I'm sure that when I come to leave I'll be heartbroken. I'm a major contradiction right now.

Currently awaiting a phonecall from school asking why I'm not there. Really don't care, I wan to be at home already!

So it was a struggle at first. My language was shockingly bad, seriously appalling. However, I can already feel a major improvement after only a few months. So long as I do a bit of revision over the break, I'll be fine. It was so frustrating being able to understand most of what people were saying to me (by guess work mostly) but not being able to say anything back! Thankfully, my many intercambios have helped out alot in that area. Verbs are coming along nicely, just need to nail the past and future tenses. I'm on my way with the past but the future is beyond me. No pun intended.

Okay, still no call and I'm 20minutes late, either they got my email or they just don't care. It's probably a bit of both.

My experiences here, up until last night in Madrid, have been nothing but positive. Well maybe the odd snag but nothing that I can remember well enough to write about. Everyone is nice, ridiculously nice, too nice maybe? I can;t help but feelthat a foreigner in the UK would receive close to the opposite reception.

But I do miss everyone so much, the girls especially. I've had enough practise of being away from my best friend. But missing out on living with those girls this year is killing me. I know I chose this course and I knew I'd have to spend a year abroad. I just suppose I never imagined I would make such incredible friends that I'd miss so much.

So now on the 7day countdown to going home and I don't think it's possible for me to be more excited! The thought of seeing everyone for 3weeks is incredible!
